Have a 390 I decided to put a new exhaust on. I would like some input on which ones I should buy. Money is a factor, but I don't want to say "I wish I would have". The hedman elite coated have alot of the same features as the fpa headers(3/8" flange etc.) but are around $300 less by my math. Has anyone had both, or just can offer some input. thanks.
p.s. on 76 for 1/2 ton 4x4-rmp intake, rv cam.

Reason: Left something out
I have the standard hedman headers (139.00) they work just fine with Byson gaskets. The performance is the same as the expensive headers.
Save all the money you can for something that will get you more performance.
Thanks randy-- I want to get the ceramic coated to help protect my starter from heat, but I don't want to pay $650 for fpa's if ones for cheaper will do the trick and not be a big hassle.
thanks again for the post.
I run the Ceramic coated FPAs. I installl them, tighten the bolts using my fingers until they hit the flange then only slightly tighter with a small 1/4" ratchet. They seal the first time with most any gaskets. I have not been running that long, but no cooked starters yet.
Your choice, headers or headaches.
But, Randy is right, I doubt there is much difference in performnace between the different brands.
look here for the quality of the FPA. I think it's one of the best investments I made in my project.
If it is just the starter you are worried about then spend 26.00 on a heatsheild for your starter. Summit has them for the FE. JMO
I don't use a sheild on my starter, it doesn't seem to have any problem starting my notor after it gets hot.
I got the heddman coated hedders for about 315 from jegs. I checked for staightness at the flange and they where off, some bye as much as an 8th of an inch, a machine shop wanted 80 to true the pair, but I ended up cutting the flange inbetween each of the tubes, Now they seal perfectly even with the cheap gaskets that came with them. As for the starter problem, I wrapped a thick peice of alunimum foil around the #4 tube and now have no trouble with restarts.
