fenderwell exit header tips?

I just got my Hedman coated fenderwell exit headers. Any tips to install them? They are going on my '79 Supercab 4x4. Stock 400,C6, Factory A/C. Do they go in from the top, bottom, or the side? Do I need to take the shocks out and remove the mounts for install? I have installed headers on my '76 Bronco(351w), and my '65 Falcon(302), but never a set of fenderwell exit. These headers look great! Thanks, Mike

Easiest way to install the, is from the side. Pull the tire to make things easier. You may need trim a bit off the bottom of the inner fender to make them fit. You'll probably also need to do a little re-routing of your brake lines coming from the master cylinder so they're not right against the headers. Also keep an eye out for any wiring (particularly on the driver's side) to make sure it's well clear of the headers. On the driver's side your header will fit under the steering shaft. Lastly, pick up some anti-seize for the header bolts. It'll make a BIG difference later on if you need to pull them for any reason. I have an exhaust gallery with pics of my L&L fenderwell headers if you need to have a look to see the fit.

also, i dont know about hedmans, but with the landl's you have to watch the clearance between the body mounts and the collectors....check that and make sure theres some room for the motor to torque without bending the headers

i have installed a few sets of l&l's and on one truck i had to trim the body mount a bit on the passenger side...it was a 79 supercab w/460

just osmething to keep an eye on

Did you have to move the shock and mount? It looks like that would have to be removed to get them in from the side. I looked at the L & L, but I could only find them for a 460. I've had great luck with 2 sets of the Hedman coated, so I figured I'd try them. Thanks for the responses! Ivan, I'll check out your gallery...I've seen it before, but I'll look close at the header pics....great looking truck! Mike

Kubotas right. I have heddmans on my truck and the clearances are REALLY tight at the body mount. Like he said, keep in mind that the motor will rock in the mounts when you get on it.

Thanks J, I looked at Ivan's exhaust gallery, I'll probably trim the mount like he did. Everything else looks pretty simple. I think I have to remove the drivers shock, and maybe mount too to install. Now I need time! Mike

AC box might get in the way too. I installed hedman's like yers without any removal of parts. But I wasn't afraid to scratch the paint or break anything either. Sorry I don't have pics.

I Installed A Set Of Hedman Fenderwell Headers Last Week (4-29-06) On My 78 F150 400m . I Didnt Have To Remove Shocks But Did Trim Feder Skirt On Pass Side & And Removed Bolt Holding Skirt To Firewall, The Head Faces Outboard Just To The Rear Of The Shock Mount. Good Luck Or U May Have Already Tackled This Job By Now.
