How many miles on your truck, i noticed it had 20 miles in the gallery, low miles = ****ty gas mpg for a little bit (most of the time)

My truck just hit 13,000 miles and I recently recorded my mileage at 17.5 MPG, 60% City 40% Hwy.

I'm at 6000 miles now. I logged 3 tanks of gas and averaged 13.5 MPG. Then I installed a soft tonneau and in 3 tanks STILL only averaged 13.5 MPG. Most of my driving is crowded highway (which means my speeds range between 55 and 80).

From what I understand, driving with a tailgate down won't improve gas mileage. Apparently an air pocket is created over the bed, and when the tailgate is down that pocket is broken and drag is actually created. I'm no engineer, and I haven't researched this so please correct me if I am wrong.
