o/t crown vic police car trans question
a buddy of mine has the cop car 1992 crown vic. i had asked a while ago about the trans now i have another question. The trans originally lost reverse then it came back at the same time he gained reverse he lost all forward gears but first.. you cant shift into second orany other gear manually. This is some kind of overdrive transmission. the fluid is full and a beautiful red color. im thinking its electrical possibly. Can anyone give me any kind of what to look for things? also im told there are two electric connections on the transmission, one being for the speedometer and one for the shifting control on the trans. someone who i dont know all that well told me to disconnect the electric shift thing and ill be able to drive it upshifting manually in all gears but overdrive... does this sound right?? cause it sure sounds fishy to me.. i get no check engine light or any other indicators that there is anything wrong with the engine except when it idles... the idle dips every three or four seconds and almost cuts out then it recovers it idles nicely in drive or reverse..
car has 181K on it any advice appreciated

92 crown vics came with 2 different trans aod ,eaod if you have the eaod
my guess would be the ( MLPS ) . My 94 crown vic started to shift funny
and late some times so replacing the (MLPS) switch with the newer model
(TR) switch. The (TR) switch is a better switch it is a 95 model switch ,
changing this (MLPS) for the newer (TR) fixed my crown vic. Hope this helps
man these cars drive great!
P.S. This switch is on the side of the trans on the shifting lever .
