I own an '89 Bronco 2 with the 2.9 EFI in it. The head cracked and I decided instead of puttin all the money into the old engine, i'm just going to buy a newly rebuilt 2.9. Has anyone done this? Where is the best place to get these newly rebuilt 2.9's at? I was looking at the one on this site:
If I go ahead and get this engine, what all else should I do while it's out of the truck. I know i'm going to paint the valve covers, oil pan, etc....but what else should I do while it's out of the truck? Any advice, etc. please post.
I did the exact same thing you did... head blew, i replaced with rebuilt heads, about 6 months later i was 4 wheeling and heads blew again so i just replaced the whole darn thing. I dont remeber where i got them but i purchased some after market heads that were much heavier and reinfoced then the original heads cost me like 300$ i think... its been like 2yrs. I got a shortblock from a place in dallas tx called dallas city motors. think it cost me around 500 or so, and you could get the long block with heads for like 800 i believe... it had about 12k miles on the engine now and runs great, also go ahead and replace your clutch while your in there( at least i would) ... Gl on the rebuild let me know if you have any questions..
