Can anyone give me an idea why my freakin center console shakes so violently? I have a 97 XLT, and the cosole shakes with every rattle and bump on the road...literally 1 inch to each side. Does anyone else have this problem? Can anyone tell me how to fix it? Because I've taken it apart already and tightened three gold colored nuts, the only things I could tighten, and seamed to have no effect. Any help...please...is so much appreciated!
[font color=blue]John, been there; done that; got the t-shirt; and burned it. In other words, I have experienced the same. Right after I bought my 01 Explorer Sport, I noticed my console doing the same thing. I took back to the dealer, they looked at it and said the mounts are designed that way.
What I eventually did was lower the pressure in my tires. For some reason, the dealer had blown the pressure WAY up on the tires. Lowering the pressure solved the problem (it also made my truck ride a HELLUVA lot smoother).
Thank you for the advice. I ended up doing the same thing. I also put new shocks (Monroe Reflex) and new tires (Goodyear Fortera)and the shaking stopped a little. But I still hit bumpy road and it shakes like before...it even throws my CD changner into a fit. I think the line fron Ford about it being designed that way is a cop out. But thanks for the sympathy.
My 96 Eb does this when I get around 70+ mph. When i hold the sterring wheel it is smooth as silk, but if i look over at the console, it is shakeing atleast a half inch to each side...
Hello, I have a 98 Mountaineer with the shakes. I am fabricating a new front driveshaft to replace the bad CV joint. When that's done I will have the rear driveshaft rebalanced. I hope that is part of it.
