I recently had a leaking rear seal. A couple weeks ago an annoying squeak started up whenever the clutch is completely out. It would stop when the clutch was pressed down about an inch. This week I had a new rear seal put in and the clutch still squeaks, it will still stop squeaking if the clutch is pressed about an inch.
Could this be due to the oil that got into the bell housing during the leak or should I be expecting any future problems? Any way to clean it without tearing it apart? The squeak is always there when the clutch is out, even when driving. 151,000 miles on the truck. I have no clue if the clutch has ever been done before (I've owned the truck five years). Shifts good and the clutch has been working fine. No slipping. All info is appreciated. Ask if you need more info on my situation. Thanks.
Further searching leads me to believe it is the pilot bearing. This is not good. I just dropped over $400 to have the rear seal done. Wish I would have had the bearing done, too.
could be your throw out bearing too. Mine sounds like a cricket chirping when the pedal is fully released. My mechanic said not to worrie about it until i replace the clutch or the noise gets worse, that was a year and a half ago and its been chirping for about 2 years now.
I agree with 85F 150driver. The noise is more likely coming form the throw-out bearing. When the clutch is engaged, the input shaft and the pilot bearing are at the same speed and it would seem unlikely that the pilot bearing would make any noise. When the clutch is disengaged, the input shaft is free to spin in the pilot bearing.
It is possible that all you need to do is adjust the clutch release fork so it does not ride against the throw-out bearing when the clutch pedal is all the way up.
Yeah, sounds like your throw out bearing. Like every one else said I would not worry about it, until its time for a new clutch. I never knew you could adjust the clutch release fork.
you cannot adjust your clutch, it is hydraulic. it is probably the throwout bearing doing the squeaking. the reason it is squeaking is the wear on the clutch disc. as the clutch disc wears it gets thinner, that lets the fingers on the pressure plate come farther out toward the throwout bearing causing them to touch. thus you get a squeak!
i wouldnt worry about it right now, if the clutch is still working o k.
my throw out bearing is shot and the last person who put in a clutch in my truck didn't alighn it right. my rear main seal is basically gone as well, i go throw about 1 quart of oil every 125 miles and the engine don't smoke. i normally would have to pull the motor, do the rear main, then put in a new oil pump which means new pan seal as well, i figure while i take the time to do that i might as well rebuild the whole motor and while the motor is out put a new clutch in it. its gonna be time consuming but should be worth it in the end.
