I know I read somewhere else in this site about people having a problem with engine roaring or howling I think they put it whe the truck reached a certain km. I am at about 2500km on my truck and was hauling my fifth wheel this weekend and was surprised with this roaring that came about. It does not seem to be related to anything I was doing while driving - I could not connect it to any reason. I hauled approximately 660 km through some good sized hills and mostly flats going approx 100km/hr most of the time and it would come and go for what seemed like no reason - anybody????? Of course I hope I am not confusing any of you with CDN kilometers - it about the same of your speed limits would be in miles......
Hi,
How hot was it outside the day you were towing?
If it was in the upper 80s to 90 F, then I would suspect the fan clutch engaging and disengaging to keep the engine cool. The PSDs do have very loud fans when they are engaged. This will occur much more when the a/c is on.
I have to locate a bulletin on a similar noise that some trucks have.
Fred
Thanks for your interest - no it was not too hot - hot but it was only about 25C - I was not running the air but the fan which I usually run and find it fine for the warmer days. Not sure if it is the fan that was running - my husband says it did that when he drove for highway - he says he was told it has to do with the diesel engine......
Yes, Patti, It's your Fan Clutch bonding and the roaring is the sound of the Air being whipped around by that Diesel powered fan motor.
My wife calls it the "extra engine" cutting in.
Patti, just for information purposes (especially when driving in the States)2500km is a little over 1500 miles & a speed of 100km is a little over 60 miles per hour... Have fun.. Tucker
