added roar ... sometimes

Just curious...occasionally the normal sound of my diesel stroking away is augmented by a smooth-sounding steady roar that seems to be in sync with the rpm's. It sounds cool! But I was wondering if that's standard. I think it's safe to say it primarily does this only when the engine is hotter...particularly on hot days.

Mines been doing that too, especially with all this triple-digit weather Houstons been having.

Thats just the big fan up front cooling the engine down before things start to get too hot. Nothing to really worry about...

It sounds like the fan clutch kicking in.

dont wish that to hard, that louder roar is requiring more of your engine power(parasitic loss, belt driven accessory) to make that roar. Basically, its the fans clutch engaging more, and spinning the fan at a closer speed to that of the engine, where as in the winter, the clutch lets the fan almost freespool, and therefore draws less power.

Lol I thought it sounded cool in my Ranger. That thing would kick in and my little 2.3 instantly turned into a mean SOB. Then it cooled itself and it turned back into a little puddle jumper.
