I have a mid year 03 still with the factory flash. I now need to go get the current one due to my programmer.
My question is: Is it now ok to get the flash, i.e. have all the bugs been worked out? I have heard many stories on this site of the flashs messing up more then they fix!!
Well if you flash your quiet engine, wont be that way anymore. the fuel mileage will drop. my truck is also a may 03 with the latest flash and ford is getting it back because of the flash updates and oil leaks and faulty injectors dumping fuel into the oil.
When thay make a flash thay don't start fresh thay add on to the old flash and the only one you can get is the newest and you can not go back to the one you have now.
The latest flash for the 03 engine Oct /Dec combined has:

Improved acceleration on cold starts (high altitude)
Runs rough on extended idle/cold start (high altitude)

It will idle smoother. Downside is you will notice a slight increase in noise at an idle. You might notice a change in fuel economy. However if you have a Predator, it will more than make up the difference. I also think it is quieter with the 65HP program.
I already had the Dec flash and had lost the Pilot Injection, fuel mileage, and performance with the Oct flash...
It does idle louder...
but I haven't noticed the quieter idle with the predator... but just could be my perception...
Which programmer do u have? you might talk to the mfg if you can TRY the programmer without the latest flash --- I know Choctaw Bob doesn't have the latest and his programmer DEZFINETLY works...

If you can avoid it don't let them touch it. The only problems I have with my truck (04/03 build date 8/03) is because I let the dealer reflash - Oct flash eliminated pilot injection and hurt mileage a little - Dec flash hurt mileage more and this time hurt performance. You might as well talk to a tree as complain to Ford about what they have done. My dealer told me to be patient months ago and I have been but last week got the word that Ford will do nothing = mad! The fix is easy if you want to risk your warranty!

ur signature says, Edge juice. i didnt think it mattered w/ them since its after the pcm?(or so to speak) Or r u one of those crazies tryin to stack 'em up?
the tech is supposed to fill out a little sticker and "affix" it to the truck. i put them on the core support when i did them. but i was the only tech there who did. and i forgot more than once
