Were do you go to get your axle numbers decoded so you know what you have? Tag on axle is 3L55-88-4J29 and above that is S837J There is a cast number of FOTW-4025-AA
I can't find out what transmission I have F2TA KA B660824 If anyone can help please let me know.
Thanks
I always go to a Ford truck dealer. A car dealer would probably know too. But the truck dealers can answer other questions about how to change something or fix it.
The 3L55 means 3.55:1 gear ratio with a trac-lok (posi) unit. The "L" is what tells you it's a trac-lok, and an open dif would read 3.55.
The cast number (and I hope I get this right) tells the decade, year, vehicle type, part group, and revision number. So:
F0 = 1990 (D=70s E=80s F=90s, etc...)
T = Vehicle type (I believe it's "Truck")
W = Part group (I believe it's Chassis or drive train or something like that)
4025 = not sure (maybe part number)
AA - revision/redesign
This is going off memory so I apologize if I'm not 100% right. Someone on this site had a decoder and I think the Haynes manuals do too.
What kind of truck are you working on and what year is it? Also, what engine does it have and is the trans auto or manual, overdrive or not, how many gears? We can usually figure out the axle from the type and year of truck, and sometimes the trans.
The rear axle will be a Ford 8.8". The trans *could* be an M5OD or there is the possibility it could be a ZF. Does it have a creeper low first gear or a normal first gear ratio? The ZF has the creaper/granny.
