I have a 98 f150 extended cab (4wd) with 16X10 wheels and LT315/75/R16 Maxxis buckshots. I have a 3.55 gear ratio. K&N air filter, and true dual flowmasters. I get 10.5 to 11 mpg in the city...is that the best I can expect to get. Would a chip help or would that make it worse?
Thanks
you have heavy *** whel tire combo- rotating mass is the worst- that and 3.55 cogs- gety 4-10's it will improve- id personally go 4.56's it would take alot of stress off your driveline
the pulleys were the best in my opinon but i have yet to do the exaust
The k+n filter test i did was to open the airfilter assembly remove the filter and start the truck then put the paper filter in place listen to the rpm s drop and come back then do same with k+n had no drop in rpm s tried it again with paper filter same drop now im convinced imagine the increase at high way speed

Just remember your odometer is around 10% off. You are traveling more miles than you show so you need to correct for that when doing the math.
This week i averaged 19-20 miles per gallon in my 97 XLT reg cab 4x4 4.6 and a 5 speed with 3.08 gears (they suck). fill up set odometer at 0 run 410 miles fill up set at 0 run and fillup 20.5 gallons with 419 miles on the odometer 20.4 miles to the gallon with 100.000 miles and no mods and oem plugs and wires.
