What can I expect for MPG's on 2001 Supercrew 4x4?

I'm trying to decide if I should buy the wife the new 2001 Supercrew that is sitting on the local Ford lot. It is equipped with the 5.4L engine, 3.55LS axle and 265/70R-17 tires, and of course 4x4.

Do any of you have a similar rig? What sort of mpg do you get? She drives about 26 mile a day (round trip) to work.

Hopefully you can give me some good numbers.....like 15-17 mpg....I'm crossing my fingers, but I'm not going to hold my breath!!

Thanks

I have 2001 F150 Screw 4x4 with the 5.4 liter V8 and I get around 15 MPG with about 3000 miles on the truck. That is with a mix of highway and around town driving. I also commute about 30mi round trip to work. The mileage seems to be improving as the truck breaks in so don't be discouraged if you don't get good mileage right away. I also would NOT get the 4.6 liter in a Screw to try and get improved mileage. Its just to heavy of a truck to get good performance and towing capability with the 4.6.

Thanks for the info Ben. I went ahead and purchased the truck Tuesday afternoon. Hopefully with the 3.55 rear end, the mileage will be reasonable. Going to make a short trip with it today to see what it will do.

Neil, I purchased a similarly equipped SCrew in May 01.
I put almost 5000Miles on one trip. From central CA to Mt Rushmore via Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and Ariz. So there was a variety of driving mountain and highway, I got about 17mpg. Not too bad. FYI.
some things to look for; bed and door latch alignment, and ignition switch not returning fully to run from start position.

Thanks for the heads up on the items to look for. I discovered that the box was crooked on the third day of owning the truck. I took it right back to the dealer and they had to add some shims to straighten it out.

I'll be really happy if the new Screw will get 17 mpg!!!
