Exhausts gave me about an average of 2 mpg. I plan to do the FIPK, but am still working for the money to pay for it. I tested my milage on my way back from College Station and averaged about 18.2 mpg. My city averaged out at about 14.4 mpg. In my opinion, every little gain helps, especially with the rising gas prices these days. I don't see how you guys can bring your trucks all the way down to the E, I usually try to top mine off when it hits about 1/4 and it's still $36-38. It takes a big bite out of my wallet, maybe that's why I don't have the money for the FIPK yet?? I do agree with Rambo, if you plan on keeping your truck, the mods will pay for themselves. Also, a little extra power is never a bad thing.
savings calculations
700 miles per week divided by 16mpg =43.75 gals at 2.20 per gal times 52 weeks =5005 dallars per year
700 miles per week divided by 18mpg =38.88 gals at 2.20 per gal times 52 weeks =4448 dallars per year
5005-4448="556" dollars saved per year for me.
it doesn't take long for the mods to pay for themselves with me
I'm amazed to hear that some people are getting in excess of 20 mpg in their F150's. These are heavy trucks and I get combined 14 mpg. The window sticker on my truck and some others I saw on the Ford lot say 14 mpg city and 17 mpg highway. These EPA estimates are generous because they are calculated with the driver going very easy on the throttle. The highway mileage is done at a steady 55 mph on a flat road. How in the world are some people getting 19.5 and 20.5 mpg?
the same reason no two vehicles run alike- i had a stock 92 mustang gt that would run mid 14's - buddy had same car same gears trans, even with me running it i could barely break into the 14's- there are some flukes out there
I have a 98 f150 extended cab (4wd) with 16X10 wheels and LT315/75/R16 Maxxis buckshots. I have a 3.55 gear ratio. K&N air filter, and true dual flowmasters. I get 10.5 to 11 mpg in the city...is that the best I can expect to get. Would a chip help or would that make it worse?
Thanks
Man, my 01 5.4L OffRoad 4x4 SuperCab 3.55LS only averages about 11 or 12 in town. I drive it easy too. I gotta get it checked out for the fuel trim. It has a K&N filter and Flowmaster cat back exhaust.
Well in our part of town, we have that re-formulated crap gas. It probably takes off about 3 or 4 mpg compared to regular gas.
No longer an option these days. Dual tanks are old hat. I miss that for one reason; I cannot run premium in one tank and regular in the other now when I tow with the Diablo Sport chip. Now I have to fill it all the way with premium or forget using the chip in premium mode.
