The auto parts store was unable to test the dizzy. I did some testing with my inductive timing light and believe I have narrowed it down to either the cap, rotor or coil.
I re-verified that my timing is on by getting the motor toTDC by putting my finger over the #1 plug hole and feeling it blow my finger out on the compression stroke. Everything is spot-on.
I put the inductive pickup of the timing light on the coil to dizzy wire and got a steady strobe of light when cranking the engine over. When I moved the pickup to any of the spark plug wires I got nothing.
My conclusion is that either the cap/rotor are bad or I'm thinking it could possibly be the coil, maybe not having enough power to get the spark to jump the gap from the rotor to cap?
I would try the cap & rotor; but, it must be pretty bad not get any spark at all. It takes a good impules to fire a timing light; so, your ignition appears to be good.

I must have gotten an out-of-the-box failure of either the cap or rotor, both of which are new. Hopefully tonight is the night! Man I'd love to hear that motor running again!
Go figure? The coil had enough juice to make a nice blue spark, but not enough to make the gap in the dizzy. Another part that was sold/installed by the dealership and has failed. I had an old coil laying around and put it in and she fired right up. My eyeball timing put me right between the marks right at TDC. I set timing to 10 btdc but need to retard it a bit as I'm getting some pinging when under load.
So everything is about done.

Thanks to everybody who helped me out. This site rocks!

i'm considering putting in a DSII ignition system in when i swap motors out...how much am i looking at spending to do this?? what did you guys spend to do it?
I found my DSII at the local "****** it your self" wrecking yard. Got the distributor, module, and wiring harnest for $36. It was a plug & play project. Took about four hours.

I went with all new components. The reman DSII dizzy cost me $70 and the GM HEI ignition module cost me $25.
