Hello fellow enthusiasts,
Could someone help me out with deciphering some casting codes.
I have a 79 F250 with a 460 from what I believe is from an early 70's passenger car.
The block casting code is D1VE(the first 2 characters are a little hard to make out but I think these are correct)-6015-A2E(or A2B).
The casting code on the cylinder heads are D3VE-A2A.
Any insight into this would be much appreciated.
Thanks
The block is a '71 casting which was used several years after. The heads are '73 castings. If the heads haven't been changed, likely your engine is a '73 or '74. '75 engines had the D5 heads.
The engine could have come from anything, jsut because it's got Lincoln casting codes, doesn't mean it came from a Lincoln, just that it was originally designed for a Lincoln. Same is true as to the castings first two digits, D1 indicates that it's a 71 casting, but it could have been cast well after that year. Only the date code will tell you when it was cast. It's conceiveable that it could be the original engine based on the casting #'s
