When operating my key fob last Friday, all the door locks on my 2000 Explorer suddenly bacame possesed. They repeatedly attempted to relock. I wasa able to make them stop by using the key and then holding down the unlock button. Eventually though, I was forced to remove the fuse controlling the lock/unlock circuit. I took the battery out of the key fob just in case, but it had no effect.
Could this possible be a stuck relay, that can be replaced r4elatively easily?
Dear Mike,
Had a very similar thing happen two years ago during first winter with my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Track. It stopped occasionally but eventually something just fried or plain wore out.
It isn't fuse as you say. Is it a relay, and if so - where the heck is the relay.
Ya know, this is not merely an isolated incident. If you search anyone of several forums at this site: electrical, pick a model, etc., you will see there are man forums that verily abounds in "door lock actuator" (the culprit) in these cases. And, you would see that it is a problem that Ford has known about, by my superficial reckoning, since at least since the mid 90's. They ought to be replacing these things free! If this were a safety issye, which in some cases it could be argued it is, a nice lawsuite would have gotten Ford to fix this problem long before this!
