Hi Bill,
That's interesting about the 1977 Lincoln Versailles using a special crankshaft (D74Y-6303-A), and cylinder block (D74Y-6010-A).

Are these parts functionally interchangeable with the other engines? Do you know if these parts are better, worse, or the same?

Do you know the casting numbers associated with those part numbers?

The Lincoln Versailles block's casting numbers are D8VE-6015 (dont recall the suffix) This block is a little known treasure, it's built thicker like the Mex block, but lacks the Hi-Po main caps. Bare weight for this block is 135 lbs. A late 80's roller block is 126 lbs. I just let one go to a friend that's into dirt track racing. He confirmed what Ford's 5.0 book said about it, he inspected it all over and found it to be thicker everywhere over all the other production blocks exepting the Mex block. The Lincoln block has a boss cast in the rear for a crankshaft position sensor, thus the reason for the part number difference. The sensor was for the electronic feedback carb.

Hey Baddad, thanks for that info. Now the cat's out of the bag, however, so those blocks will be snapped up (well maybe not) fast now. I imagine the cranks also have some provision for the crank trigger which is what makes them unique.

Or maybe they're a 4340 forging? [Humour]

I don't know what's different about the crank, the block I had was pulled from a 67 Stang I'd bought a few years ago.
