I have been helping my friend with her 92 explorer, which has been idling poorly. I don't know much about this car so bear with me. Sitting in park, the idle jumps up and down occasionally(other times it seems normal) and there is hesitation when hitting the gas. It will occasionally idle so far off that the car stalls(happens more in reverse. What things should I look for? I am under the impression that little preventative maintenance other than the standard oil change has been done. Rebuilt engine has about 90,000 miles on it. I need to know what to check, how to check them, and where they are located. Im more used to working on simpler vehicles...like my 69 f-250...so Ill need a bit more explaining.
i cleaned mine first but my mechanic told me that there is a motor in there and when there is build-up in there for so long the motor gets buildup on it also.
