Question about A/C overcharge

I was having problems with my A/C, I didn't think it was cool enoughm so I took it to a shop. It had already been converted to R134, the mechanic checked it and it had 3 ounces in it. Without draining the old, he added another 12 ounces to it. Question, will this damage the system since it says the charge should be 7 oz?

from what i heard if you overcharge the system it stops cooling properly but it does not really hurt anything you just need to let freon back out. if you are cooling good i would not worry about it.
