I want a cheap glass pack exhaust and was wondering if any company makes one for an 88 bronco. Also does any one know of a place that sales just exhaust pieces. If I had a new over the axle pipe I could just buy the glass pack muffler.
Schucks sells cherry bombs. Around $20.00-$25.00. They also sell short exhaust pieces. I've got one on mine as a short term solution until I get around to my exhaust system.
got a dynomax magnum glasspack off jegs.com for 16.99 + s&h which would be like $25 but you will also get a free hat and some stickers! and great service
im debating whether or not to go with glasspacks or mufflers (preferrably Flowmaster) i have headers and true dual, which do you guys think would sound best? (loudest i.e. aggresive...:shrug )
glasspacks will sound really crappy after about 10k miles. they don't even sound all that great brand new. It'll sound OK in tha cab, and outside the cab at idle... but as soon as you stomp on it, BLEH! it's just nasty. The sad thing is that most ppl don't realize their glasspacks sound like crap, because all the nastiness is coming out the pipes, and you don't hear it inside the truck. I speak from experience, as I've had glasspacks on 3 trucks and 2 cars before I learned the flowmaster lesson. Borla, bassani, DynoMax all sound good, but are a bit pricey. For my money, a flowmaster 3-chamber is the best sound you can get. grumbles at idle and growls like a v8 should all the way up to WOT. If price is no object, I'd say get a full Bassani setup from headers to tips. They have the best sound I've ever heard for a Ford v8 (in all the different firing orders). No matter what brand you go with, get a chambered muffler. You'll thank me later :-)
What I dont understand about flowmaster exhaust is that I can get just the muffler for like $120 but if I get the kit ( which adds the over the axle tube ) it costs me like $450. Is there a place to order just the over the axle tubeing?
this is the cat-back kit from jegs... it's less than $250, and it's pretty nice. Your local exhaust shop should be able to bend a pipe for you for a little less, but it won't be tuned like the FM kit. Also, the muffler itself should be more like $60-$80 depending on the type you want. $120 is way too high
my truck sounds the best without a muffler and my Flowmaster sounds better than my glasspack.
i chopped the muffler off my 1990 Geo metro, it is loud as all hell. and its only a 3 cyl. your telling me a 351 w/ true dual exhaust, and NO muffler will be not too loud?
keep in mind that here we dont have emissions tests.
Everyone is making it sound kinda complicated. Basically go to your muffler shop and tell them what you want (ex.flowmaster duals that comes over the axle). I dont know how much the cost varies but here in South Texas it will run about $350 for parts and labor. If you want to save $50-100 buy the muffler and cat (if you need it) on eBay. But if you want the pipes to run or exit a certain way, just tell the muffler shop and they can do it.
