The name of my tranny TOY-KOYUO, as clsoe as I can get it.
I have been told it was only in for a coulpe of years, anyone know aobut these things.
Like good/bad any long term problems.
They have said it takes a special fluid that you cannot find any more!
Bought my 87 Ranger new & it has 222K miles on it now. It also has the Toyo-kogyo 5 speed which is still going strong. I've used 80-90 weight Amsoil synthetic gear oil in it since 5K miles. Great/quick shifting tranny. They say it's hard to find 80-90 gear oil?????

Good to read this kind of mileage............I will have it back tomorrow.
I really love “the” original sport utility truck
Tim, take a look at the "lubricant specifications" page in your owners manual, it wll probably say the same as for my 87. 5 speed Trans lube is Ford spec ESP-m2c83-c
I did a google search on that spec & heres one of the results that came up www.gulfwestern.com.au/products.asp?id=45 If yours calls for the same spec, I would'nt let them put auto trans fluid in it.

I'm sorry about the ATF reference earlier. The information I had access to (Chiltons) at the time was wrong. The later Mazda (M5OD) uses ATF. Chiltons was confusing the earlier Toyo-Kogyo transmission (also made by Mazda) with the later M5OD. Regular 80W or 80-90W gear lube is what you want.
I first want to thank all who helped out.............
I did get the BII back..WOW what a difference, we as humans have an incredible way of adapting. Apparently I have over the last two years...not knowing it was that bad. I honestly cannot remember when the clutch felt as good.
They replaced pressure plate, disk, input shaft brg, and slave cylinder. Resealed the shifter plate and a few other things total was 509.00 so not to bad overall. All parts were Ford, I pucked those up myself.
I spend so much time over in the 6.0 area..............well, I need to get by once in awhile and learn more about my favorite truck I own.
There is a great group here.
