Say can anyone tell me why the intake gaskets should fail on
my 76 f-150 with 360 . has a aluminum edelbrock performer 390 intake.
it looks like the gasket became pitted and lost surface material . the trouble
surfaced with noticing pressure burp past radiator cap. ( odd noise ) gaskets
were fel-pro . cooling system had creamy crud in it,,, but never lost prestone
or seen any in crankcase . am now replacing head and intake gaskets .
is the aluminum a poor material to use for intake manifold ??
havent seen any cracks in the heads .
i am trying out another brand of gaskets
FE's are noted to leak in the back of the intake, just make sure you use plenty of permatex sealer at the corners and around the water jackets and you should be ok.
