How do I remove the distributor?

Hey,

How does the distributor come out - I have a 69 F-250 with the 360. Removed the bolt and plate, distributor pulls up slightly, but not completely. What else do I need to do. Don't want to break the thing.

Spray some penetrating lube on the seal between the distributor and the manifold. Tap the distributor with something like the handle end of a 3/8" ratchet. Enough to make a difference, but not damage anything. These things tend to get cooked into place over time. After removing the bolt and bracket, it's just a battle of finesse or force. Pull the cap, so you can help spin the rotor while pulling up.

And make sure the motor is at top dead center and you have reference marked the distributor housing to the block and the rotor to the housing (just trying to trouble shoot any future problems)...

And watch that oil pump rod!!!
if it comes out with the distributor, gently, quickly and carefully grab it before it slips out of its socket on the bottom of the dist and goes *plink* into the oilpan.

this will ruin your day.

My old one (dist) came right out like a rotten tooth, but my new one was a bit snug. Every now and then I losen it and work it back and forth its getting looser.
There is a dabate to how tight is normal, and how tight is abnormal.
Ive personally decided if its turnable and I can work it out of its socket with a little back and forth twisting and pulling, its not to tight. I could be wrong, its just what i decided weighing the differing opinions of the group.

Keep an eye on that rod....
