its probably a bad fuse, unless you checked that.... check it before worrying about a relay.. or switch...

You should have a relay in the battery junction box. When the horn button is pressed the relay is grounded through the airbag sliding contact. When this happens the relay closes and the horn goes HONK. Both of these circuits are powered from the same fuse and connection to the relay.

Another common horn problem is that the single wire horns (prior to 98 I think) ground through the attaching stud. Rust and time create a poor ground through the painted fender inner. Try running a ground directly from the horn attaching stud to the battery or a known good grounding location.

My 95 has a horn relay in the power distribution box under the hood. It is the same type of relay to run the wipers. I know, because now my wipers work, but the horn is inop, and I haven't gotten around to replace it yet. If it's not a bad ground, my guess is the relay. Try swapping the horn relay with a wiper relay to see if it works. They are small black rectangular boxes at the front of the distribution box and should be identified on the lid. If that is the problem, don't be lazy like me! Replace the relay.

I have a question about the horn too. On my boyfriends 01 ranger when you push the horn there is only a clicking sound. I think it comes from the dash on the passengers side or close to that area. Also, where is the horn located under the hood? thanks

Try the inside of the front drivers fender well or on the radiator support.
