i have 78 f-250 running gear, i know it is a dana 44 front end, but how do i know if it is high pinion or HD or what ever else it could be. i need to know cause the guy that is going to build it (supposedly really really good around here) wants me to bring all the pieces (seals, bearings, gaskets, gears and such) so i want to ordar a master rebuild kit but i dont want to order one and then have to go buy different bearings and seals cause the kit was for the wrong dana 44
A high pinion dana 60 would be the h. d. Its the same basic design, its just bigger. All dana 44's from 77.5-79 are the same except for the lockins on the 77's I would search all the local junk yards before i'd rebuild a 44. there plentyful & cheep around here.
i was gonna use the same gears and axles, just changing the seals/bearings. and haveing the assembly "re-setup" to make sure it doesnt make any funny noises. if i bought one from the junk yard, would i not still be in the same boat with worn out bearings and seals??
