1963 steering box

Thanks Camperspecials65 and Fordboypete/The number on the steering box itself is C3TR. I have seen the steering box that I think you are refering too. Buy my box does not have that plate with the four bolts you spoke of.The colum just screws directly into the top of the box and there is one big locking nut.But any ways I seem to have located the part through Green Sales. Its on it's way I hope it's the right one.My box has what looks like a freeze plug in the bottom of it. And on the inside of the box just on the other side of the freeze plug is a Race and a bearing that the worm drive from the shaft sits in.My next question is does that plug come out and if so.Is it from the inside and what would be the best way to get it out. Then theres the race for the bearing. How are those useally taken out.And reinstalled. Very carefully I'm sure. LOL !! Thanks .

Jeff, the boxes I got all have 3 bolts on top cover with a seperate on being for the vent/fill hole. As to the plug at rear of the worm gear, my guess is it would be a removal like a freeze plug....not sure though. Removing race....really hard to get them out w/o nicking them or tweaking them....The plug at the end is part of a kit originally...3548 and the plugs number is 351701-S with a PP-87 in parenthesis below it Funny...looking at the blow up of this....the worm kit doesnt have the lower brg or race as part of itand the sector kit is the bushings/seals for it but sector not part of the kit....
As for removing column from box, theres 2 ways....unbolt rag joint from column(2 1/2 bolts/nuts) or undo the clamp right below it....should be a 12 point 7/16 bolt as I recall. be very careful putting that bolt back in cause you will notice once the rag joint is off of the splines the worm has a half circle cut in it....when reassembling these 2, start that bolt and run down by hand....clean the pee out of the parts and make sure the bolt can be run down by hand....If you try to assemble and try to start the bolt and run it down tight chances are you will wipe out the threads on the bolt....I learned that changing rag joint on my 65.....after wiping out one bolt and wondering what happened scratching my head....

Dontcha love trial and error cs65

Get this one.!!!

I search and search for the part and find it at green sales. They were very helpful. Then just for chuckels I go down to my local Nappa store and the have the part and its $20 cheaper. It blows my mind what you can still get for that truck. Anyway I had already ordered the part from green sales. Was able to get the plug out no problem and the race came out with just a few small taps. Can't wait to put this box back together and get Her on the road again. Thanks for all the input and say a prayer for tight steering.
