hi i have a 93XL sport, i have 2 benches in the back the first one seats 2 and the second one seats 3, and i want to know if its possible to swap out those for 2 buckets in the back, i know some edie bower(sp?) editions had buckets in the back would i just be able to go to the junk yard and use those or what kind of seats could i use.... id like it to be safe and legal, any sugestions would be appricated
Dave.
I got my hands on a set from the junk yard. It made the van much cooler. I eventually removed them. Thats due to that I work with my van. The whole thing is the bases, they are special!!!! I think I have one of them in my garage, and it might be the important one that tilts. As for the seats themselves they are the same as the front. The reason I only have one base is that I used the other as a replacement for my driver seat. So I guess the base I still have is the pass. side. Give me a buzz if your looking for it, I'll double check, maybe I even have both in the garage. I dont remember?
Keith
I'm guessing that you would like me to see if I still have the bases ? Anyway ,I check . As for the seatbelts, I honestly dont remember. I'd have to say that each seat most likely had its own,I think that in my van there are ones on the van itself.
Keith
if you dont have the bases thats fine, im gona check around the local junk yards for them but that wont be for about another month when i have some more time on my hands i just wanted to see if it was possible, if you do have the bases how much doo you want for them? it might be cheaper with shiping and all just to go to the local junk yard
It's not just the Eddie Bauer that have the bucket seats in back. I've had/have three Aerostars. Only one was an EB but all had the bucket seats.
The problem with switching will be with the seat belts. The 91 and older just had lap belts that connected to the seat base. On 93 and newer they use a sholder belt. I believe that the belts are different for the bench and the bucket seats.
On mine with the bucket the belt comes up from the wall, through a hoop and then attach to the van near the floor. You pull it over your sholder to latch it. I think the bench belt does not attach to the floor but to the bench itself. Correct. If that is so then you have a problem doing the swap. How is yours connected?
i just ran out and looked, there is the 2 lateral belts attached to the wall and then the things that they clicks into come straight out of the bench, so i guess this is gona get kinda tricky
I just converted my 97 Aero with 2 benches. I used the captains chairs out of a 91 aerostar. I haven't finished the seatbelts yet, but it shouldn't be a problem. I will get the seatbelts out of a 92+ aero with captains chairs. I actually swapped the entire 91 interior into my 97 (just seats) because they were way nicer
cool so would you be able to expain a bit about the seatbelts once you finish it, how much custom is needed?
thanks,
Dave
I haven't started the seatbelts yet, but my plan is this:
the captains chair seatbelts will need to be swapped from side to side. The female connector from the left chair will swap over to where the male connector is on the right chair. It appears that the threads and bolts are the same side to side. Both male connectors will be removed for good.
as for the shoulder belts. I will get some shoulder belts out of any 92+ with captains chairs and bolt them in however they are on the 92+
That is a cool idea, I never thought of getting two front seats and putting them in the back. I like it. One of the reasons I like the van so much is the front seats, they are nice and comfy.
I'll have to think about doing that. There are enough 'stars in my local boneyard with good front seats, no prob.
