Hi there,
I have searched and not found anyone, anywhere yet with this problem. For a while now I have been adding trans fluid (1 qt. / 300 miles) and it is getting into the crankcase. Some does leak out on the ground, it used to only use a qt. every 1,000 miles or so. Now it is getting into the engine crankcase somehow. I have looked and don't see where this could possibly be happening, but it is. I drained the crankcase again (3rd time) this weekend and it had nearly 2 gallons of oil and trans fluid in it. I don't think this is too good for my high miles engine either. Any ideas????
There is a vacuum actuated modulator on the side of your transmission. When the diaphragm on the modulator breaks, the transmission fluid will be sucked into your intake manifold, and into your engine from there. Remember to replace all the rubber hoses on the vacuum tree located on the intake manifold. The transmission fluid really does destroy these.
Sounds like the only way for this to happen to me too. The modulator is not very expensive and located on passenger side of tranny. Mine went bad and I was constanly low on fluid but not so bad as to have it in the crank case.
You know, I considered that, but thought if it went in the intake it would just burn. But, I'll check the line for evidence of fluid this weekend and see. Maybe it accumulates and when the engine is off the fluid drains in the manifold area down to a piston and then past the piston rings.
Thanks for the quick response guys, I'm glad I found this forum.

OK, I looked and found the vacuum modulator. And it did have plenty of fluid run out of the tube when I pulled it off. It is well hidden on the right rear of the trans behind a heat shield because the exhaust and cat are inches away. No way to get to it unless I remove the y-pipe. Geez…
Fixed! Thanks guys, it was the modulator. I just couldn't believe that much fluid was getting into the engine. The hardest part was getting to it, but Bear2x2 was right, it can be done without moving the exhaust. A 10mm socket for the heat shield nut, and a deep 10mm socket for the same bolt that holds down the retaining clip is all you need. The other problem I had was cleaning away all the mud and gravel that had accumulated around the modulator from our dirt roads. One full can of engine degreaser and a coat hanger did the job.
Hi...Just fixed my problem with the modulator to.My problem now is the tranny shifts real fast from 2nd to 3rd.Is there an adjustment on this modulator ? or should i try the tv cable if this thing has one ?
