replacing light behind speedometer
i have a 96 ford ranger and i was wondering how i can go about replacing the light behind the speedometer. i need to know how to remove the dash or whatever i have to remove to get to the light. thanks

The instrument cluster has to be removed. You should disconnect the neg bat terminal, then the pos terminal and wait 2 minutes because of the airbags. Pull the radio panel then get all the screws out for the cluster. It will come part of the way out. Then remove the speedo cable and electrical connectors. Replace all the bulbs while you are in there with the long lasting bulbs. It's not too difficult, except for the speedo cable. It's a printed circuit and somewhat fragile, so be gentle with it.

On a '96, you have to remove the black panel around the radio/AC/etc. Remove the panel below the steering column AND the metal plate underneath. Then you can start removing the instrument cluster. It's a pain... I've had to do it twice.
Luckily, there is no speedometer cable. It's all electronic.
