I've got an '86 F250 with a skweaky speedometer cable. Feel pretty droky posting this question online but here it goes. How do you remove the cable from the speedometer? I've twisted on the white plastic nylon piece but it doesn't seem to want to budge.
Was thinking about just putting a light coating of white grease on the cable but otherwise does anyone have suggestion for a replacement cable?

Welcome to FTE Mike!
No question is dorky if you don't know. Everyone has to learn somehow.
Very simply, you dont twist. There is a notch or raised portion of the coupling on the side of the cable and you simply press the "notch", pull, and separate it from the back of the speedo head. It should come apart quite easily. If you have to use anything near force, you're doing it wrong.
Conversly, to re-install just slip it back on to the speedo head and push it on until it "clicks" (felt or audible).
This site shows it in detail. The owner's manual says lube the cable with (naturally ) Speedo Cable Lube PN:E6TZ-19581-A, or any lube meeting Ford spec ESF-M1C160-A. You can probably find something at a parts store.
