Mike, welcome to the board! I have seen your name mentioned on this board (usually in reverance) It is nice to meet you.
I look forward to your opinioins, comments, etc
Welcome. I'm a little curious on this Jag swap myself. I wouldn't mind seeing some install pics and a write-up. About what is the cost of a Jag IFS front end? Thanks and welcome.
The hardest part ppears to be fabbing an upper shock mount. And oh by the way Jag is now a Ford!
Correction - The hardest part seems to be finding someone that has done this to a 48-50 F1 and has it on the road.
Bill, all kidding aside, I appreciate the phone call this morning and you thoughts on doing this. I dug around on the site some more this afternoon and came across this thread from 2004. Was wondering if the project ever was done and if it was documented. The original poster was on line when I brought it back to life this afternooon but no word yet.
Halfdone - Anything you can find on this would be a tremendous help to those of us on the the top half of the world. So far, this looks very attractive. I'd like to find someone that has done it to a 48-50 F1 and driven it but I don't mind being the ginuea pig if I have to be. I know 49Willard has acquired the pieces and thought it through carefully and one other FTE member has mounted it but don't know if the truck is done yet. Agian, any information would be welcomed.

Extremely cheap. Less than $500.00 and probably 1/2 that at most. That's why I'm so interested. That and the car it comes off of is similar in weight to our trucks and it will fit the 48-50's with minimal mods to the truck frame and no mods to the jag components from what I can tell so far. Seems too good to be true so I'm trying to flush out the gotcha in the set-up.

I just realized the original post was from 2004. I'm curious if it ever was too.
I would be the ginuea pig if all funds are provided for the project.

Thanks. Do you know the year ranges? What about track widths?
49 Willard (Bill) is my mentor thus far. Hopefully he will chime in with a definitive answer. My understanding is that the late 70's to early 90's XJ-6's and and XJ-12's work best and have the best brakes so that is what I'm going to look for if I choose to go this route. What I haven't seen done is the steering column to rack set-up. Some other minor details I need to get figured out as well.
I saw the track widths on the old jag - pro's/cons thread and I think it was 49 Willard that posted those as well. I will look tomorrow if I get a chance. PM me if you are interested in a phone discussion on this.
As I said above this is a very common swap in Australia, I have seen at least 50 done on 41-47, 48-52 and 53-56.
Plus loads more on Ch**y and various other gay trucks.
XJ6 and XJ12 Jaguar or Daimler sedans are the one you want.
Series I brakes are hard to get parts for here, not sure about the US.
Series II and III are the good ones.
In searching for the thread I posted above I found a really good thread with all the track widths.......but I don't remember which forum, as I searched three to find that post (ozrodders, roddersroundtable and HAMB)
The comment about shock mounts above intrigues me because the front end I am talking about has them build into the crossmember.
They are easy to air bag too, but can be set up super low without bags. There is a 53 here that can roll beer cans along with it's Jag front crossmember.

Halfdone,
Help us out here. My Series 2 front end has the shocks mounted outboard of the coil spring and the top of the shock was mounted to the body. I can not tell from the Geocites pix that you posted earlier in this thread, is there a shock inside the coil spring i.e. is it a factory coilover type of design? Another member of the board, Paul in Ca mounted a xj front end under his 56 (I think)had the same geometry as my front end and he fabbed an upper shock mount weld to the frame rail. What are we missing here? Are the later XJ front ends setup differently? Are the jags in the upper half of the world different. HELP!
Good to see some follow up Mike, I have been wondering if we would see more posts from you. Looks like Kenny is going to get the ball rolling. Glad to see I am not the only one awaiting your input. Joe

Joe,
We are hoping that Mike will pipe in here. He started this thread in mid 2004 but has not chimed in this time around - yet. I revived it looking for Jag IFS information and it's gotten busy. Also, Kenny is no longer the moderator (that's how old ths thread is). Hoping George spots this soon. If we can get the thread title changed, perhaps we will get even more participation.
The title has been changed now. I would like to know more info on this install as would everyone else. I like the straight axle because it is nostalgic (Which I guess the Jag is somewhat nostalgic too). If this Jag setup is cheap and has a good ride, I would be interested. Might be time to sell some of my Mustang II parts.
texan, where in Texas are you? I found a front clip off a XJ6 last night that was in Fort Worth. I can find it again if you are interested.
