First off I want to say that the following is my opinion and I DON'T want to start a ****ing match. When I finish my schooling I would like to get a 3/4 ton or larger truck. I have been a fan of dodge trucks mainly because of the Cummins diesel engine. I like the looks of the 2005 Ford but I would perfer the Cummins to the Powerstroke. I just don't car for V-8 diesel engines. Even a DT 466 would be fine but Ford doesn't put that engine in any of its trucks. I know that the Cummins is available in F-650 and higer trucks but can it be special orderd in F-550 and lower? I have had a couple of people swear they saw a super-duty at a rodeo (New truck dealer ) with a Cummins in it. Does anybody know if there is the possibility of ordering a truck like this if maybe you know the seceret hand-shake or kidnap someone from Ford and hold them of ransome?
No, the Cummins can not be ordered in the F550 and lower trucks. Some people have done engine swaps, but there is a fair amount of work involved. If you want a truck with a Cummins in it from the factory you'll have to buy a Dodge.
hmmm, a wonderfull engine, buts got a dodge wrapped around it .... i agree, the dt466 woudl be awesome to have in a 350, or at least a 450 ... we used to work the crap out of the 450 rack body diesel at my old job, and a little more power woulda been nice ... not that i think there is anything wrong with the 7.3 or the 6.0, i love them and wish i coudla swung the payments on one myself.
You can order a Ford and have it sent off to have the PSD taken out and a Cummins dropped in, but its pricey. Cant remember the website to the shope that does it. Why do you need such a large truck?
I would only need a 3/4 or one ton, but I figured that maybe it would be possible to get a Cummins in one of the larger trucks (F-450 and F-550) since this class of trucks do not compeat in the same sales class. I am sure the Dodge/Cummins contract is what's prohibiting this from happening. Maybe one of these days Dodge will start using their own Detroit or Mercedes diesel engines and Cummins will be looking for another truck mfg. to sell engines to.
I think once you get into the larger trucks, there are more options, such as the Cummins and the Cat. I saw that F-650 Super Cruizer at the F-100 SuperNationals that had the big Cat under the hood. That thing was a beautiful truck, man. I fell in love (lust) right then and there!
The website mentioned earlier in this thread is www.fordcummins.com. Check them out and maybe you can find yourself a SuperDuty truck with the Cummins under the hood. All it takes is a little $$$$.........
