My '01 F250, 7.3 PSD, Lariat, 4X4 with 33,000 miles is getting close to the end of warranty at 35,000.
Are extended maintenance agreements a good thing to lock in at this point?
I've been sent applications from Ford and checked out several others. Some years back I thought someone mentioned purchasing only the Ford authorized plan. Then what level of coverage?
I'm open to info from anyone who has experience with these types of agreements. I don't plan on towing but do plan on running this rig for couple hundred thousand miles or so.
My experience with the private policies is terrible. They have all kinds of clauses for not paying something. My wife used to have a GMC Jimmy that we bought at 42k and took the 100k extended warrantee. I needed to use it for a heater control valve failure. Part cost $354, diagnostics cost $92. Since the part had to be ordered warrentee didn't cover diagnostics. I ate the $92 + $50 deductable. Same thing happen 5 months later except this time heater failed due to "vacuum line came loose" and is not a covered item. $157 later I'm back on the road less my money. Long story about how many times we had that piece of $%^*@ back at the dealership. I'll never own another GM product nor a private extended warrantee. Just my thoughts. My experience with Ford's extended warrantees has been good. Ford put a brand new transfer case in my 87 F250 at 162k, 2 new electric fuel pumps in 180k, a new alternator, a couple of other misc. problems and not a problem from the dealership. I had at that time a 5 year unlimited mileage warrantee and drove about 45k a year. Should never have left Ford. I'm back for good!
