The question that always seems to pop up...Which muffler to purchase? I have a 93' F250 4x4 with the 460 engine. It has an huge cat and it has to stay on to comply with smog laws which are way too strict. The question is whether to put on another Flowmaster or try the Magnaflow. The truck already has a rusty Flowmaster on it and they don't seem to last very long anymore.(second one) The 6" round Magnaflow in stainless seems to be priced right along side the aluminized steel flowmaster. The exhaust is going to maintain it's 3" diameter out of the cat and exit in front of the rear tire. Is the Magnaflow any good or should I stick with the Flowmaster? Any suggestions? I want it to be as loud or louder than it is now. (Flowmaster si/do with pipes out the back) Cat only not an option, must attempt to comply with laws.
If you want it loud I would not recommend the Magnaflow. I have a Magnaflow on mine and its deep sounding but not loud. I'm going to put Flowmaster 40 series 2 chamber on there. Magnaflow is an excellent muffler, I'm sure it flows better and lasts longer than the Flowmaster but its not loud enough for my tastes. I'm also going to get a highflow cat to replace that stock monster under there.
If you want it as loud or louder then you're gonna have to go with straight pipes. Or how about a Dynomax Race Bullet?? That'll sound pretty wicked and if you paint it should last a while.
Thanks for your input. This truck is mostly used for recreational purposes so I think I may try the Magnaflow. If it is too loud while I'm creepin' along it might scare all the critters away. Again, thanks!
