#1, i want true dual exhaust, like i muff/cat per header. I see that they make H pipes, and X pipes to connect the two sides, is this nesessary? You have to cross the two sets of pipes somehow? My dad was telling me about how he just ran pipes off each header, without connnecting them, and it was fine. But this was on a much older vehicle. Any ideas?
#2. I'm looking for somthing that gives a nice low rumble, and is louder than all &$^^ when you lay on the gas. Should i be looking for a Flowmaster 40 series? What do you suggest. I'd like to get somthing with dual in dual out, cause i'm thinkin 2 mufflers on a v6 is not nessesary. It might make it too quiet. Also, are the flow's 40 series quiet during idle?
#3, for any pair of headers i see, they have the right header, the left header, and the Y pipe that connects the two. If i wanted true dual exhaust, i would have to ditch the Y pipe, is there somthing special i have to use to hook up each pipe to each of the headers, or is there some kind of pipe i should buy?
thanks for answers, and all advice is appreaciated.
#2- On the 4.0L the original 40's would fit the bill. I would call Flowmaster about the DI DO muffler, it sounds like a good idea. Original 40's are not to quiet at idle.
#3-You would use header collectors to connect the pipes. I don't think you can buy pipes from the headers to the cats. I would check with a few shops about what you want to do. I've always put the headers on myself and then let a shop fab up the rest. Good luck w/your venture, Dan
thanks alot for the reply dan. Could you tell me what the purpose is of a cross over pipe? Friend at school told me i needed to have one, i asked him why and he didnt know. So just for my own info. What do you mean by collecor pipe, is that the pipe that takes the two headers and combines them, or is that somthing else? Cause if i use the Y pipe that connects the two headers, wouldnt that not be true dual exhaust?
Crossover pipe balances the exhaust. I only say you shouldn't need one because your not working with alot of horsepower. To me it would be a waste of money. JMO.. Not a collector pipe, header collectors. Its a part that bolts up to the header and then you can weld the pipes to it, for true dual exhaust. Find Summit Racing or Jegs on the internet you can see a picture of a collector there. Your right, if you use a y-pipe at the headers you would have single exhaust.
Hello, I'm new to this forum and don't mean to step on Peter94's toes but my question is simular to Peter94's. Except I have a 03 F150 Supercab with 5.4L and dual cats and want some rumble from my 5.4 instead of the whine of the transmission. I would like to install true dual exhausts from cats and have them exit out both sides of the truck. Preferablely in front of the rear tires. I've been looking at the Magnaflow systems but not sure which part# would provide this setup.
Is this even possible? And if so can it be purchased as a kit from Magnaflow or would I have to just purchase the mufflers and have a shop bend the pipes?
