Valve cover torque settings

Valve cover torque settings
I have a 1992 Ranger 4.0L V6 and the valve covers are leaking. I purchased the gaskits ($60.00/pair) from Ford, but I need the torque settings for the cover bolts. Does anyone know what they are? I was told by a Ford mechanic to set my wrench to 18 ft. lbs., but that didn't sound right to me. I would appreciate someone who knows to give me the correct setting.

According to the vehicle repair guides at www.autozone.com (same as Chiltons), they torque to 3-5 ft lbs.
