Not sure with the 240? On my small block V8 I wrote down 3-5 ft. lbs. in my maintenance log, using a rubber gasket. Torqued to 5ft lbs., ran the engine for several minutes and there were no leaks. Finally, drove the truck for a few days then went back and re-torqued.

Hopefully member more familiar with the 240 will chime-in and clarify??

The Ford shop manual says 10-12 ft. lb. for a 240 an a 300, But that was with a cork gasket. I would stick with Dave's recommendation with a rubber gasket.
