Hey everyone,
I have a 79 Ranchero 500, and im having a few problems with my gauges. My engine temp gauge doesnt even move, its stays at C. My fuel gauge is always shaking. Finally, my spedometer bounces like CRAZY when i accelerate. Im in the middle of restoring the chero, so if anyone knows how i can fix this, that would be great. Im guessing it could be a short, because i saw that under the steering wheel, some wires are taped with electrical tape. If you know how to help, please tell me! Thanks!
Danny
speedo bouncing- its usually the cable connection being loose or a tight bend in the cable. the inner working square cable has a long taper and will skip or click if its not fully ingaged. do you have cruise control? you could check at the speed sensor before checking the back of the speedo.
temp gauge-I would just try a new sensor.
not a clue for the shaking gas gauge. does it shake with the key on and engine off?
btw if you don't know already be carefull with the gauge cluster, they get awfully brittle. mine basically disinigrated when I started replacing bunt out bulbs.

Thanks for your help. I do have cruise control, so i'll check the speed sensor. No, my gas gauge doesn't shake with the key and engine off. It could be a bad connection im guessing. Thanks
Danny
