Tranny temp Question

We took a drive to the high country the other day with the travel trailer. The tranny temps stayed around 155* to 180* (which is where it has always run)on the way up, but on the way home the first large down hill the tranny temp went to 185* and it wouldn't go any lower, went to 200-205* max. It normally runs around 130 to 145 around town unloaded but since the trip it runs 20-25* warmer. The temp increase makes me wonder if something is going out, maybe, or am i over analyzing it. oh yeah,I have a tru-cool max cooler. any input would be greatly appreciated.

have you checked/changed the fluid lately? the more impurities in the fluid, the hotter the unit will run.

The fluid only has about 4000 miles on it, and looks brand new (no burnt smell)

i would try a flush before you worry too much.. sounds like something may be restricting flow through your cooler, esp. if there is no other difference in how it's operating... were you gearing down on the downhill for engine braking? that may have something to do with it.. may have stirred up some sludge... just my $.02

The truck pulls the same and shifts normal, I usually turn off overdrive going down hills. I'll try a flush but I hate to it costs 130 bucks to refill the tranny. Thanks
