Question about transmission fluid temp.
Picked up a transmission fluid temperature gauge and finally found where to install it but am not sure about correct temps when towing. Read somewhere on here, temp should not exceed 100 degrees above ambient air temp. Where does this number come from? Ford? ??? Only reason I question it is, on my airplane the engine oil has a max temp of 240 F after going thru an oil cooler and returning to the engine. Makes sense that after the fluid goes thru both tranny coolers it should be the same temp as the engine coolant around 200F. Seem to remember back in my trade school days transmission fluid max temp was a lot higher than I'm reading here and lubes have really progressed from the Type F days.

Mine stayed pretty much at 185 the whole trip (June/July - 10,450 miles) around US of A. The only time it climbed was in the BIG mountains in the west. NEVER went over 200. See sig for what I pulled.
