Alt idiot light /wiper problems

Its my 66 F100 , alt light not work, swapped bulbs around in cluster with know good one, no difference...what would make it not work when key in on or accy position ???
Wipers....figured other 2 blades out, no difference though as to wiper stop problem...stops whereever it happens to be when turned off of 2nd speed(2 spd sw.) park and 1st turn it off....is this the motor thats lame or switch ???
Anyone know how to visually ID a 2 speed and single speed motor....part number or whatever?????

Thanks, cs65

BTW, anyone know of a link for 66 wiring diagrams ???

Not to smart on your alt problem; I recommend going to a local starter / alternator shop; they can either look at your wiring arrangement or hook up to see if your having other problems; also there's alot offolks on ebay selling wiring diagram booklets; and check numerous resto mag's for pamphlets as well.

Alt light is actually driven by the regulator I think. The regulators are pretty cheap -- go get a new one and swap it in. The old 66 regulator was a mechanical unit. They were adjustable even. Kind of cool to look at. But I think newer solid state ones are better.

Wiper -- There is a wiper park circuit, inside the motor I think. Don't know much about it, but would sound like that is what your problem. Have you tried a search? I think it has been discussed recently.

later....

The wiper park is controlled from inside the wiper motor. The single speed motor has 3 wires and the two speed motor has 4 wires. To test the motor for park, position the wipers in a "non-parked" position, disconnect the motor from the wiper switch and connect a jumper wire (two-speed motors) from the metal housing of the motor to a known good ground. Connect a jumper wire in the end of the connector from the white wire to the black wire. Connect another wire from a battery source to the red wire and the wipers should park. If it parks then the problem is in the switch or the wiring. If it does not park and you are sure your test setup is correct, you can adjust the park switch inside the motor according to the shop manual as described below.
1. Remove the motor thru bolts and remove the motor cup and armature.
2. Rotate the output shaft until the park switch lower contacts are firmly closed.
3. Rotate the adjusting screw clockwise until the park switch lower contacts just open.
4. Rotate the adjusting screw counterclockwise one full turn.
5. Check the bridge to ensure that the legs are contacting the brush card when the lower contacts are closed.
6. Install the armature, motor cup and thru bolts.

This may sound like an over-simplification but have you checked that all the wires to the Alternator are OK? What happened to me was that the wire supplying power to the Alternator had broken off the end of the lug but was still in position due to cable ties holding it in place. All I had to do was clean the wire and solder a new lug in place.

Replacing the voltage regulator is also a good suggestion by cdherman.

Update...swapped regulatorwith one of my many spares...it had a new type with shorter height and screws....pulled cover....all solid state computer crap....no adjustments...why make it a servicable unit ?? Anyway, put in regular unit, alt idiot light prob fixed, but wiper park issue persists....are the 65 and 66 2 speeds the same motor with washer setup? I know switches are different cuz of the washer....just wondering bout the motor as I know of a 65 the was built same day as my 65 in the pile awaiting its final demise....I been picking it clean as I can....got steering box off for my 66...Let me know as the crusher date is whenever it shows up type thing....

Thanks guys as always, cs65

I finally performed the "park" test (as described above) on my '66 2-speed motor and they parked as intended. I guess that means it's time for a switch. Does anybody know what each of the 7 wires are for? Was the washer a pull-for-wash feature or is there just that much play in my switch? It feels like it is spring loaded and meant to be something... Also, any leads on a replacement switch would be appreciated.

Raleigh...The 66 is indeed a pull for washer type switchHow is the back of your switch wired? On mine, I got a plug that fits into all the blades except the outer left 2 as you look at it from behind the wheel. The inner of the 2 from what I have gathered is the hot wire which goes into the rear stud on back of the ignition switch. The black and white is the feed for the washer motor which ends up under the hood. Im gonna go look closer at my motor for its part number and wire count today, but the switch remains that was in it when I got it was a 2 spd washer/wipe switch as I checked its part number. Weird as its not a CC truck.

Will keep you posted.

Thanks, cs65

Yeah, I'm pretty sure mine is a 5-contact connector with two additional spade-lug connections that dissappear towards the ign switch. I haven't chased them down yet. I also have a push button washer switch located above the ign switch that I also recall having on my previous '66 (20 yrs ago).

It's been a while since I visited this thread but I removed the wiper switch and disassembled it to determine each of the contacts. Several contacts as well as the bimetallic cutout switch were burnt so I removed the contacts and soldered them to a double pole, single throw switch and was able to patch the problem with a workable park and low speed setting (you would need a double pole, double throw switch to be able to get both speeds as well as a park). This worked fine until my upgraded delay wiper switch and module arrived which was the best, simplest upgrade imaginable. Just a matter of cutting the shaft to the correct length and installing the ground to the switch and timer module! I highly recommend this to anyone who is faced with replacing their wiper switch anyway.
