Fuel problem
I just installed a new in-line fuel filter and now my truck won't start. The fuel lines don't seem to have any fuel in them and no matter how much I pump the pedal, no fuel seems to be getting in the lines. I tried putting a little gas directly into the carb but it still won't start. I am kinda new at this restoration thing so anything can help. Thanks.

rjs, If you put fuel in the carb and the engien wont fire off then I would say you have a electrial problem. The only two things it can be is fuel or fire. Have you tried looking down in the carb and pump it to see if you are getting fuel? Next I would check to see if you are getting fire. Pull a spark plug wire off and crank ithe motor and hold the wire close to the block and see if you get a spark from the wire to the block. You should use some heavy leather gloves wile doing this to keep from getting a shock. Hope this helps

If the truck ran fine befor you installed the filter and now wont run. you may have installed the fuel filter backwards, Look for a arrow on the filter pointing the way to the motor.you didnt say how much gas you put into the carb. If you put a pretty good splash in you might have flooded it. Also check around the coil and see if you might have broken some wires changing the filter. The wireing gets pretty britle in these old trucks.

If you replaced the short section of rubber hose when you changed out the fuel filter, then disregard what comes next. In the early years, when I was less smart and in a hurry, I sometimes did not bother to replace the rubber hose. Over time, the rubber can sluff off from the inside of the hose and clog the filter. This is especially prevalent when twisting and bending the old hose to install the new filter. As was said before, if you are getting gas, then it is time to check for spark. Lazy
