Took truck out for a short drive yesterday and the thing went nuts! Lost 3rd gear(engine just revs when it gets there), Lost turn signals and my ABS lights came on and truck braked very strange. It wanted to lock up. Im mostly concerned with the trans problem. Could this be an electrical issue? I seem to be having alot of those. Possibly trans sensor? It is a 98 F-150 EXT with a 4.6 and 4r70w.
Any ideas anybody? Someone told me today it could be the alternator not throwing enough current. The battery did die the other day for no reason. It is a new battery.
tmore than likely the reason ur brakes seemed strange was cause ur brakes were working w/o the abs on. usually when that light comes on they revert to normal braking. im just learning about this though so dont take my word on it. if it is the alternator u can test it with a multimeter to see if its puttin out the right volts. it does almost sound like to alternator isnt workin right casue i forgot to hook mine up once and the speedo said i was doin 75mph and i was doin more like 35 and all the lights started flashin at me then it died.
Checked voltage at battery today and it read 30.3 volts! Would this be a simple change of the alternator or is there an external voltage regulator somewhere? Do you think this could have fried some sensors? Mainly concerned with the speed sensor since I have no third gear all of a sudden. Could this effect any other things like abs and 4x4. Jordan
