Trim codes.

Hey all.
I'm looking at purchasing a 2000 F150 4X4 (7700GVW) in the next month or so. I would just like to know were to find out what the trim abreviations mean. Such as the EXT, XLS, XLT, and XL.
Do they describe certain options that come with the truck or are the for somthing else?

Thanks,
Chris.

PS: here is one truck I am looking at.

XL is the base model
XLT is the middle trim level
Lariat is the top

Then you also have STX/Sport which are exterior trim packages.

EXT is short for extended cab. Ford actually calls it a supercab

For the full skinny on ALL of the various factory configurations, head on over to here. This site might require you to create an account (I managed without, somehow), but I was able to track down every single possible combination of interior/exterior packages, engines, gear ratios, towing packages, etc., etc., etc., using the "build your vehicle" function. Though it takes some fiddling with, the program they use is so comprehensive that it will even gray-out those options that are incompatible with each-other.

Happy shopping!!

That's a really interesting web site.
But what I want to know is what the actual trim options are with each trim designation.
If I'm looking at two trucks, one is an XL and the other is a XLT what is the actual difference in the trucks.

Such as these two trucks.

I suppose for starters we can take a look at the differences between the 2004 F150 heritage models on the Ford website. First diff would be the nearly $3,000 in price. Going down the list shown here shows that the XL is missing a lot of seat options, tachometer, power window & locks, overhead console, locking tailgate and remote keyless entry (these aren't even options for the XL). While I'm sure the pre-2004 model differences will be different, even these probably vary from year to year so it's kinda hit-or-miss.

There is actually five different levels for the 2000. Base (work), XL, XLT, Lariat, and Harley edition. Each adds standard what was optional on others. Sit back its long!

Base- 5-Speed Transmission, AM/FM Audio System, Antilock Rear Brakes, Dual Front Airbag Restraints, Front Bench Seat, Intermittent Wipers, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Rear Step Bumper, Tinted Glass, Vinyl Seats, 16 Inch Wheels, and
4.2L V6 OHV 12V FI Engine

XL- 5 Speed Transmission, AM/FM Audio System, Antilock Rear Brakes, Chrome Step Bumper, Dual Front Airbag Restraints, Front Bench Seat, Intermittent Wipers, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Styled Steel Wheels, Tinted Glass, Velour/Cloth Seats, 16 Inch Wheels, 4.2L V6 OHV 12V FI Engine

XLT- 5-Speed Transmission, Air Conditioning, Aluminum/Alloy Wheels, AM/FM/Cassette, Antilock Brakes, Chrome Step Bumper, Cruise Control, Dual Front Airbag Restraints, Intermittent Wipers, Lighted Entry System, Overhead Console, Power Brakes, Power Door Locks, Power Mirrors, Power Steering, Power Windows,
Privacy Glass, Split Front Bench Seat, Tachometer, Tilt Steering Wheel, Tinted Glass, Velour/Cloth Seats, 16 Inch Wheels Alloy wheels, and 4.2L V6 OHV 12V FI Engine
(Note: Lariat and Harley only available in 2000 in supercab trucks)

Lariat- Air Conditioning, AM/FM/CD Audio System, Antilock Brakes, Automatic 4-Speed Transmission, Chrome Step Bumper, Chrome Wheels, Cruise Control, Dual Front Airbag Restraints, Intermittent Wipers, Keyless Entry System, Leather Seats, Leather Steering Wheel, Lighted Entry System, Overhead Console, Power Brakes, Power Door Locks, Power Driver Seat, Power Mirrors, Power Steering, Power Windows, Privacy Glass, Rear Bench Seat, Split Front Bench Seat, Tachometer,

Now, some options are not available on some levels. Like the base- no leather, auto lights, etc. If you need specific available options, goto http://edmunds.com/tmv/used/2000/ford/f150/index.html?tid=edmunds.u.tmvmmindex.content.num10. 0.ford*

It lists the major ones that affect pricing.

Thank-you for the great information. That is exactly what I was lookling for. Now if someone lists a truck as a XLT I will know what it has for options.

Chris, As a note the 7700 only came in three (or four) trim levels. work-XL (I count this as one, but in reality it is two), XLT, and Lariat. This way you'll know of some one is pulling your leg about a Harley 7700. The 7700 only came with an automatic (no 5-speeds behind the 5.4L in an F150) and in standard and supercab forms - no supercrew. Look for the 10.25inch rear and 7 lug wheels, these are a dead give away you are looking at a real 7700.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Kerry,

The 7700 GVW XLT Supercab is the truck I want. So coming standard with a 5.4 and an auto is perfect.

I was actually at a dealer last month and I asked if they had a 7700GVW truck. They showed me one and I told the salesman that I didn't think it had the 7700GVW option. (mosty because it didn't say on the tailgate emblem) He assured me it was and proceded to go get the keys. First thing I did was look at the sticker inside the drivers door jam and it said 6600GVW. Now he claims someone must have wrote it down wrong.
So even some of the salesmen at the dealer don't know.

Chris, Don't get me started about salespeople ....

Another way to check is look for that "P" in the fourth digit of the VIN... the 7700 had a higher brake class, so it is not an "R" like the other F150's in the 6001 to 7000 range. Check out the door tag sticker for my 7700 in my gallery...
