fuel injection pump
Is dynamic timing of the injection pump something that can be done in the garage or are there too many specialty tools and guages needed? What all is involved.

You will need an inductive timing gun with a pulse adapter for the 6.9/7.3. The GM pulse adapter will screw in the hole but will not have the proper signal. Once you find that equipment, you need to find out the proper degrees directly from the ford manual, I have seen so many differnt manuals and they all have different specs. You want the specs from the ford manual. After that you will need to take a hydrometer reading from the diesel fuel and conpensate for the different cetane level.
