I have a 95 F150 with 8 inches of lift. I recently did a solid axle swap (78-79 D44) and am looknig at a maybe cross over steering. I was wondering if there is a cheaper way to do it rather than buying ORU's kit. (I did not buy there SAS kit either thanks to all of you I was able to bone yard it all)
Also can I buy tubbing, and use spherical rod ends for tie rods and drag link rather than the stock rods and ends? Any ideas on this. This is a daily driver I am trying to improve the handling on. Thanks
Yes you can use rod ends. Aren't those knuckles flat top? If so ( or maybe even, if not)you can buy hi-steer arms and if not you should be able to have them machined to accept hi-steer arms.
I am not sure if they are totally flat or not. They appear enough that if they were machined I could bolt on the arms. I do not do alot of off roading and do not need the tie rod relocated up higher. I mainly want to get my drag link angle better. I am tossing around a few things.
1. Would using heim (spherical) joints rather than stock ends make the difference allowing more angle and solve my problem.
2. Should I go to heim joints on both tie rod and drag link and mount the drag link on top of the existing knuckle mount.
3. I worry about maching my knuckle mount and strength on the new arms going to that set up. I am still wonering and researching what would be best for me. Seeing how I am 90% street driving.
Don't forget when you are doing your x-over conversion you will also need to adjust your track bar with a new mount, so you can keep it's and the drag link's angles the same. If they arn't the same (which they won't be if you do x-over without moving your track bar) you will have bump steer issues, which you don't want to deal with expecially since it is your daily driver.
