93 Explorer Sport REVERSE LIGHTS problem

Hello,
I have a 93 explorer sport with the manual transmission. My reverse lights dont turn on. I have checked all the bulbs, sockets, and fuses. I have been told to check the switch that is mounted on the transmission. Can anyone give me detailed instructions as to where this is located and how to access it? Thanks in advance for the help.

Mike, I cannot provide you with any detailed instructions, but here's the picture from electronic parts catalog. I marked the switch with red circle. Hope this helps a bit.

Has anyone ever replaced the reverse light switch before? I now know that it is definitely the switch, I jumpered it manually and the lights come on.

Do I need to drain the tranny fluid before changing the switch?

Should I worry about any of those little parts in the above diagram that link the switch to the shifter falling down inside the transmission case?
