Direct fit performance muffler replacement?
Anyway, I'd like to keep costs down, increase volume, and it doesn't bother me if I keep the stock configuration. Thanks in advance.
Oh yeah, 2002 F150 4x4 w/ 5.4L
Whew.....you can do it yourself for 1/10 of that. First find out the outside diameter of the exaust pipe at the muffler. Then order the muffler with the same pipe dimensions and configuration (offset or center inlet/outlet, etc). The muffler will have the inlet/outlet measured as inside diameter, so the pipe o.d. will fit inside the muffler inlet. At the rear, you may need a "spout", to extend the tailpipe up to the muffler, because aftermarkets are usually shorter than stock mufflers. Then it's just a matter of cutting the pipe with a hacksaw or cutting wheel, fitting the muffler and "spout" in place, and clamping it together. Order a couple of universal hangers in case they're needed.
I replaced my Explorer muffler a couple weeks ago with a Hooker Aero Chamber. It's not a hard job at all, and takes maybe a couple hours.....
That $950 set up was for dual exhaust custom fitted to my truck and installed. WAY more than I wanted to have done!
1: 2-1/2'' Offset; 2-1/2'' Offset; 4-1/2'' x 9-3/4'' x 14''L - $49.99
2: 2-1/2'' Offset; 2-1/2'' Offset; 4-1/4'' x 9-3/4'' x 14''L - $34.99
Do I need to be concerned about the length? My stocker is 32". I know Thelonerangerxlt said that I'll need to add some pipe on the tailpipe end of things, but is one of those two pipes the one that I want?
Here's a link to the page on Jegs' website
Please let me know what you think...
Edit: is there a site sponsor that I could be going to? I see when I click on that link I posted it gives me a list of sponsors.
