Just brought my 2006 f250 crew cab v8 to the garage. My muffler has a fairly large hole in it. My mechanic said the piping to the muffler is still in good shape and literally the only part that requires replacing is the muffler itself. I told him I'd like a bit more of a "throaty" sound than the original stock muffler. He suggested the dynomax super turbo, which retails for $250 here in Canada. I checked a few US websites and it's about half price there with free shipping. In fact most mufflers are about half price in the States. There are so many to choose from, I was wondering anyone had some good advice regarding which brand and model to go with. I'd like to keep it as close to a direct fit as I can seeing as all the pipes are still good.

There aren't going to be any performance gains. You will probably need to get a 3' section of 3" pipe to fill the gap between the length of the new muffler and where the stock pipes are. I would look at YouTube for something that you like. Its all personal preference to sound.
I have used the super turbo on many different trucks. Be sure you get the 17792 model. 3" tubing through out. The other 3" super turbos will have 2 1/2" guts. $89 on summitracing.
It makes a nice tone when you punch it but is about as quiet as stock at cruise and part throttle no drone whatsoever. definetly quieter than the larger magnaflow and flows more at WOT, you will feel a slight difference over stock. I left my stock resonator on as well. i rode in a 99 with a flowmaster and it was really tinny sounding.
